Lipok Social Foundation (LSF) firmly believes in organic agriculture as a key pathway to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Through its dedicated efforts in training, capacity building, certification and advocacy, LSF has significantly contributed to promoting organic farming practices and empowering rural communities.
LSF conducts regular training workshops in Aurangabad and Jalna districts, equips farmers with the necessary knowledge and skills in organic agriculture.
Practical demonstrations on biodynamic compost preparation and pest management formulations further enhance the learning experience.
These workshops have successfully enabled over 180 farmers in Aurangabad and Jalna districts to practice organic farming techniques on their own land.
Since mid-2021, LSF has been collaborating with the KHOJ organization in Amravati district. This partnership focuses on developing the capacities of staff and field volunteers to effectively promote organic agriculture and Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS). 160 farmers from Melghat area of Amravati district were facilitated with PGS Organic certification.
In collaboration with Dilasa Sanstha in Yavatmal district, LSF has been conducting training programs for Krishi Sevaks and farmer groups in Yavatmal district since November2022. The program focuses on disseminating organic farming knowledge and practices, leading to the establishment of 26 model farms in the district. To further support farmers, LSF developed village-wise soil nutrition management plans for farmers in 26 villages. These plans were presented and discussed at "Krishi Mellavas" (interaction and learning forums) held in each of the selected 26 villages.
LSF was chosen as a Service Provider for the National Centre for Organic and Natural Farming (NCONF) in January 2022.
In this capacity, LSF has trained over 480 farmers in organic farming practices across Aurangabad, Yavatmal, and Amravati districts. Additionally, LSF facilitated theNCONF-administered PGS Organic certification for 205 farmers, enabling them to access fair markets for their organic produce.
Joy Daniel, Founder Director of LSF, serves as the President of the PGS Organic Council since 2022. LSF is also an active member of this network, comprising 14 organizations
working towards promoting PGS certification across India. The network has significantly contributed to organic policy initiatives in Nagaland, Sikkim, and towards the inclusion of PGS organic certification in national food safety standards
LSF is an active member of International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) - a network of over 700 member organizations around the world. Representatives of LSF have made presentations at the IFOAM forums that were held at Bislig, Philippines and at Geosan County, South Korea
LSF has participated and contributed actively to the organic policy developments in Nagaland. LSF has also participated effectively in workshops and meetings for theformulation of guidelines for the PGS implementation at the national level.
