Water conservation and management

In the picturesque villages of Tekadi Tanda and Dongaon, nestled within the Paithan Taluka of Aurangabad district, Lipok Social Foundation (LSF) facilitated a transformative model for water conservation and community empowerment.

Through a series of workshops, LSF empowered the youth of these villages with knowledge and skills. These young minds, trained in water management plans, hydrometer use, and water budgeting, became the architects of their future. Led by LSF's technical expertise, they formed a committee and embarked on a monumental quest: a Mahashramdhan (mass volunteerism) campaign to implement water conservation plans across their villages.

This event, a testament to collective action, drew over 1000 volunteers from neighboring villages and cities. Together, they dug Continuous Contour Trenches (CCTs) and formed gully bunds, transforming the landscape and harnessing the precious resource of water. The media attention generated by this initiative further fueled the movement, attracting support from well-wishers and farmers who generously donated resources. These resources enabled the villagers to desilt a vital pond and strengthen a river's earthen bund, significantly enhancing water security for the entire community.

LSF's transformative work didn't stop there. In early 2021, they mobilized communities in Khamkheda and Dhonkheda villages of Aurangabad Taluka, inspiring them to undertake a similar desilting campaign for ponds, streams, and other water bodies. This concerted effort has yielded significant results, leading to increased water storage, groundwater recharge, and improved water availability for both wells and irrigation.

LSF's story is not just about technical solutions; it's a testament to the power of community spirit. It demonstrates how knowledge, empowerment, and collective action can empower even the smallest communities to tackle major challenges and create a brighter future for generations to come. As the ripples of change continue to spread from Tekadi Tanda and Dongaon, LSF serves as an inspiration, reminding us that even the most arid landscapes can be transformed into thriving oases of hope and sustainability.
